Physical first

Most gift card plugins start with an email. Giftaro starts with a box of cards, and treats the email as the second channel.

Your cashier gets one screen, not a WordPress admin login.

Giftaro puts a standalone portal at /giftaro-staff/. Staff sign in there, scan a card, and see the four things they need. They never touch a WordPress dashboard, and they cannot reach anything else in your store.

  1. Scan the cardAny keyboard-wedge scanner or the device camera. The number is masked in every log and order note.
  2. Enter the PINChecked against a hash, never stored. The register shows the live balance before anything is charged.
  3. Apply an amountUp to the lesser of the balance and the amount due. Giftaro places a server-side hold instantly.
  4. Split the restVitePOS takes the remainder in cash or card. Completing the order captures the hold once, even if the request is replayed.

Requires VitePOS Pro (verified on 3.4 through 3.6). VitePOS Lite registers the payment hooks but never fires them, so the register integration needs Pro. Abandoned sales release the hold, and POS refunds return only the gift-card-funded amount to the same card.

WooCommerce checkout

A gift card is a tender, not a coupon.

Shoppers apply a card before they pick a gateway. Giftaro holds the amount, captures it when the order is placed, and the gateway only ever charges what is left.

  1. Apply

    Card number and PIN go in before the gateway. The balance is checked and the shopper picks how much to use.

  2. Authorize

    A short-lived hold is placed. Available balance drops immediately and expires safely if the checkout is abandoned.

  3. Capture

    Placing the order captures the hold, idempotently. The gateway is charged for the remainder only.

  4. Release or refund

    Failed and cancelled orders restore the value. Refunds return the gift-card-funded portion to the original card first.

Classic checkout and Blocks

  • Works in classic checkout and in Cart and Checkout Blocks, including the Store API cart data.
  • Full coverage, partial coverage, removal and recalculation are all handled without a page reload.
  • Gift cards cannot buy or reload other gift cards unless you explicitly allow it.
  • Every capture, release and refund is written to the order notes with the masked card number.

Refunds that land on the card

  • The gift-card-funded portion goes back to the original card before any gateway refund.
  • An order-screen tender panel returns value beyond WooCommerce’s refund ceiling, so gift-card orders can be refunded in full.
  • Refunding a paid load removes unspent value idempotently, and is blocked once that value has been spent or reserved.
  • Order totals, tax and gateway charges stay exactly as WooCommerce recorded them.

Before you print anything.

Does Giftaro work with VitePOS Lite?

No. VitePOS Lite registers the payment-method hooks but never fires them, so the Gift Card method needs VitePOS Pro. Giftaro is verified on Pro 3.4 through 3.6. Everything else, including physical batches, eGift and WooCommerce checkout, works without VitePOS at all.

Which currencies does it support?

USD today, with no card expiry. The ledger stores integer cents, so additional currencies are a configuration project rather than a rewrite, and they are on the roadmap.

Can I run it next to my current gift card plugin?

Run one gift card system per store. Two plugins that both hook checkout and order status will double-apply or fight over refunds. Install Giftaro on a staging copy first, deactivate the old plugin there, and run the acceptance checklist before you switch production.

Can I use my own card printer?

Yes. Export the one-time production CSV and hand it to any card printer. If you use activation-time PINs, the file contains no usable PIN. For small runs, print the card sheets straight from the browser with Code 128 barcodes.

What happens when the store loses internet?

Giftaro fails closed. The register reports the gift card method as unavailable rather than trusting a cached balance. Signed, short-lived offline allowances with automatic reconciliation are in development.

How do refunds work on gift-card orders?

The gift-card-funded portion returns to the original card first, automatically. An order-screen tender panel lets managers return value beyond WooCommerce’s own refund ceiling, so a mixed gift-card-and-card order can be refunded in full. Every step lands in the ledger and the order notes.

How much work is it to get started?

Install and activate it next to WooCommerce, and the staff portal route and the internal load product are created for you. From there it is one screen: generate a batch, print it, and start selling.

Budget an afternoon for the first run, most of which is deciding on card artwork and running the acceptance checklist on staging.

How do licenses and renewals work?

Each plan covers a number of production sites for one year of updates and support, with unlimited staging sites. It renews yearly and you can cancel anytime. If Giftaro is not right for your store, ask for a full refund within 30 days.
